About

Located in a converted carriage house in the heart of Hudson, NY, Elliott Acupuncture & Chinese Herbal Medicine has been a mainstay of the community since 2011. Here, licensed acupuncturists Andrea Elliott and Daniel Weinberg, both graduates of the Seattle Institute of East Asian Medicine, combine clinical expertise with a collaborative approach to healthcare.

Our practice is rooted in the versatile framework of Chinese Medicine, allowing us to address everything from acute physical pain to complex internal disorders. We view symptoms through a varied lens, offering individualized solutions for long-term health. While we are generalists capable of treating a broad spectrum of concerns, we frequently manage complex conditions characterized by chronic inflammation including autoimmune disease, Lyme disease, and long Covid.

Who We Are

ANDREA "ANDI" ELLIOTT

MACEAM, LAC, DIPL. EAM

My interest in Chinese medicine began early as a Chinese Language and Literature major at Washington University in St. Louis. My undergraduate years included a junior year abroad in China through the Duke University in China program and a year in Taiwan studying Chinese at the Mandarin Training Center. Following graduation, I completed a one-year program taught entirely in Chinese at the Johns Hopkins-Nanjing University Center for Chinese and American Studies in Nanjing.

It would be several years before that initial exposure to China would culminate in the study of Chinese medicine, but those early encounters with the language and the country continue to inspire my study of this unique system of medicine.

FLORA AND FAUNA

Our space is designed to be a living environment. From lush greenery to our resident rescue animals, we believe a healing space should feel alive, grounded, and welcoming.

The Clinic Ficus — The first thing you’ll notice upon entering is our thriving Ficus tree, who has been a resident since the clinic’s early days. She is pruned every spring and contributes to the tranquil “treehouse” feel of the space.

Our Resident Rescues — We are passionate supporters of reptile rescue. Many of our clinic companions found their way to us through local rescues, most notably the House of Pancakes Reptile Rescue in Poughkeepsie.

  • Roxy: A calm and observant Bearded Dragon who joined us at one year old; he enjoys keeping a watchful eye on the daily rhythms of the clinic.
  • Quattro: A social Greek Tortoise rescued after a roadside injury. Quattro was at least 13 when he joined us.
  • The Chameleons: Off-site, we care for Petey and Day, two Veiled Chameleons.

Interested in Rescue? There are many reptiles in need of specialized homes. If you’re curious about reptile rescue or want to learn how to get involved, please don’t hesitate to ask us.

Services

Services

There is a foundational principle in Chinese Medicine best captured by the phrase tong ze bu tong, tong ze bu tong (通则不痛,痛则不通): "Where there is free flow, there is no pain; where there is pain, there is no free flow." This concept serves as our clinical North Star. When the body’s channels are open, the muscles relaxed, and the fascia supple, qi and blood circulate without obstruction, preventing the stagnation that often leads to dysfunction. Whether we are using acupuncture to release the diaphragm for deeper breathing or employing classical herbal formulas like Ban Xia Xie Xin Tang to clear a "stuffy" sensation in the epigastrium known in Chinese as pi (痞), our primary goal is to restore free flow. By resolving the internal "clogging" that contributes to issues like reflux, palpitations, or chronic pain, we help the body return to its natural state of balance.

Treatments & First Visit

Find all appointment types, descriptions, and pricing on our booking page by hitting the “Book Now” button.

Preparing for Your Visit

  • Clothing: Please wear loose-fitting clothing that rolls up easily above the knees and elbows.
  • Food: Avoid coming on an empty stomach; try to eat a light snack an hour or two before arrival.
  • Activity: While you can return to normal activity, try to avoid strenuous exercise immediately afterward.
  • Rest: You may feel tired after your first appointment; people often report sleeping much better after a treatment.

Comfort & Safety

We believe in comfortable acupuncture. Please let us know if you experience any discomfort so we can address it immediately. A stinging sensation usually indicates a tiny vessel has been hit; we simply remove the needle and may apply moxa to resolve it. If you feel faint or "funny" at any time, let us know right away.

Cancellation Policy

We request 24 hours' notice to cancel or change an appointment. Appointments cancelled with less than 24 hours' notice incur a $50 fee, and you are responsible for the full cost of a missed appointment. This policy does not apply to sudden illness or emergencies.

Insurance

Insurance

We accept insurance and are in-network with a number of plans. Deductibles, copays, and co-insurance may apply, and you must have acupuncture benefits for coverage to be active. For out-of-network plans, we can provide a "superbill" for you to pursue reimbursement.

In-Network: Both Daniel & Andrea: CDPHP and MVP. (Cigna often uses the MVP network in our area).

In-Network (Andrea only): Aetna, United Healthcare (including NYSHIP), and VA Community Care.

Medicare/Medicaid: These do not cover licensed acupuncturists at this time, though some Medicare Advantage plans may offer coverage.

Note: We do not accept Worker's Comp or No-Fault. You may use HSA and FSA accounts.

Benefits Check: If you would like us to check your benefits, please fill out the form below.
